Omschrijving | The student will revise (self-study) a focus area broadly related to the topic of his/her Master’s research project and ensure that he/she has a solid background and knowledge of the basic principles covered during the degree. The student will demonstrate this during an oral examination of approximately one hour to a board consisting of three examiners. Guidelines: • The exam can cover material from any of the courses the student followed during the Master’s degree with a focus on the track courses taken and the area of the research project. • The supervisor of the Master’s research project will define a suitable focus area (typically a number of chapters from one of the leading textbooks) that is related to the student’s research project. • The examiners should formulate rather challenging problems and test not only the material covered in the chapters from the focus area but also the underlying concepts. The main aim is to make sure the student leaves the university with a sufficient level of background knowledge and understanding.
