Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) understand and explain underlying mechanisms in the field of neuroendocrinology 2) acquire knowledge and to present the latest developments in a selected topic in the field of Neuroendocrinology 3) design, develop and to perform a simple human experiment in the field of food intake and energy expenditure and obtain hands-on experience with experimental techniques 4) study the literature on a selected topic in Neuroendocrinology and to dessiminate this information in both academia and society |

Omschrijving | The course consists of the following elements: -1) Experiment (1,5 EC). Throughout the course, an experiment will be performed. The students discuss the aim of the study and develop the experimental design together. The experiments are performed during the course. Then every student makes his/her own analysis of the data and writes a short report on a part of the study. -2) Neuroendocrinology of ........ (0,5 EC). Two or three students work together to provide an overview of the major underlying mechanisms in a particular field of neuroendocrinology (for example the gut-brain axis). The overview on handbook+ level is presented in an instruction video. -3) Topics in Neuroendocrinology (0.5 EC). Inspired by a guest lecture or recent developments, students search the literature for an individual powerpoint presentation on a selected topic in Neuroendocrinology - 4) Debate (0,5 EC). There are several heavily debated issues in the field (free use of Ritalin, IVF). Students are assigned to different teams. Every team has to defend or to criticize a statement in an organized group discussion. Arguments should be based on evidence from literature. - 5) Personal project (2 EC). An individual student choses a topic in the broad field of Neuroendocrinology of Behaviour and studies the literature. The results will be presented in different ways: a press release, a television interview and a peer reviewed essay |
