Uitgebreide vaknaam Bachelor Research Project Physics
Leerdoelen At the end of the bachelor project the student is able to:
• conduct independent scientific research at academic level in the field of Physics;
• formulate a research question and appraise it based on relevant scientific literature;
• develop and/or apply research methods to answer the scientific question;
• systematically organize the work in a scientific research plan
• draw conclusions based on the research outcome;
• write a clear and structured scientific report about the research, including discussion and conclusions;
• effectively communicate the acquired knowledge, insights and skills to others, both in writing and in oral presentation;
• reflect critically on his/her own attitude and adapt if necessary;
• reflect critically on ethical issues with respect to the code of conduct of scientific research.
Omschrijving The Bachelor's research project is an individual research project carried out under the supervision of an examiner from Physics. The research is completed by a report and a presentation to an academic and professional audience during the Bachelor's Symposium.

The bachelor thesis protocol contains the following steps:

1. The student chooses a research group and principal (first) examiner/supervisor. The research takes place in one of the physics research groups of the following institutes:
Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials
Van Swinderen Institute for Particle Physics & Gravity
Energy and Sustainability Research Institute Groningen

Other institutes or locations must be approved by the Board of Examiners.

2. The student and first examiner fill in the Registration and Planning Form. The completed and signed form is sent to the programme coordinator (via the Education Support Desk (ESD) or via mail: who will register the project and ask for approval by the Board of Examiners.

3. At the end of the project, a scientific report will be written and the results will be presented to the first examiner and second examiner during the Bachelor's Symposium.

4. The project will be assessed and a final grade will be assigned according to the criteria described in the Bachelor Research Assessment Form.

5. The following documents must be provided to finalize the research project:
a) a copy of the bachelor thesis, uploaded to the repository of the university library by the student;
b) a copy of the assessment form, signed by both examiners, handed in at the ESD by one of the examiners.
