Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1.Differentiate between the various categories of law, legal systems and summarise their differences and similarities.
2.Mention the various sources of law and explain their hierarchy.
3.Indicate the legal requirements of a valid contract, the role of general terms & conditions in this respect and the legal ‘tools’ available to a party to a contract in, for instance, in case of breach of contract or in case a debt is not paid.
4.List the categories of obligations imposed by law and to describe the legal requirements of these obligations.
5.Discuss the various forms of dispute settlement.
6.Discuss the history, effect and implications of the 1994 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
7.Discuss the effect and implications of the General Agreement on Trade in Services, including labour and mention the differences and similarities between GATT and GATS.
8.Discuss the various forms of protection of intellectual property, both at domestic and international level.
9.Discuss the legal aspects of Carriage of Goods by Sea.
Omschrijving International business relations are increasingly important in a globalizing world. In order to manage these business relations properly, the implications of international business law must be taken into account. This course is an overview of the main legal areas that entrepreneurs and managers deal with, such as trade in goods, labour law, transport, money and banking, taxation and dispute settlement. The course aims to provide the student with knowledge of and insight into international business law (IBL). After successfully completing the course, the student will master some important topics of international business law and be able to incorporate legal aspects into business relations with stakeholders in an integrated manner.

Entreevoorwaarden The course unit assumes no prior knowledge.

The course unit is compulsory for the IEM bachelor degree programme.
Opmerkingen Final grade: Written (digital) exam – 10 essay type questions (students are allowed to bring a dictionary into the exam hall). For each question a student can score a maximum of ten points. A final score of 55 points means that the student has reached the norm and that he has passed the written exam. Please note: a student cannot switch between the English and Dutch law programme once a choice has been made.
