Leerdoelen | The student is able 1) to formulate a business problem into a stochastic framework; 2) to apply appropriate statistical distributions in an engineering business environment; 3) to interpret data from an applied problem in terms of descriptive statistics and/or visualizations; 4) to determine a confidence interval in a context of statistical estimation; 5) to choose, apply and evaluate outcomes from an appropriate statistical test given available data. |

Omschrijving | Basic probabilistic thinking underlies many important decision making procedures in engineering and business settings. It provides the basis describing various business processes, such as product quality, for which important predictions of future behavior are possible. It also underlies testing hypothesis about product quality or its improvement. The simple linear model makes it possible to predict future outcomes of a response quantity given measurements on a predictor variable. All concepts will be illustrated by examples from engineering. This course covers the following themes: - Definition of probability and conditional probability - Expectation and Variance - Random variable, discrete, continuous - Joint probability distribution - Point estimators, Confidence interval - Statistical test on single or mores samples |
