Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1. Perform mass balance calculations for single-phase model reactors in case of single or multiple reactions in order to determine conversion levels as well as other reactor design parameters such as selectivity, yield and reactor size. 2. Determine the rate law for a chemical reaction from the experimental data in single-phase model reactors. 3. Perform energy balance calculations for single-phase model reactors in order to determine conversion levels as well as other reactor design parameters such as reactor temperature and heat exchange arrangement. 4. Apply software tools (e.g., Polymath) to model isothermal or non-isothermal single-phase model reactors in order to design, evaluate or improve the reactor design. 5. Develop their critical thinking skills. 6. Apply aforementioned calculations for industrial applications |

Omschrijving | Dedicated to the degree program IEM, this course unit connects industrial application of continuous processes with fundamentals of chemical engineering. The following subjects will be treated: -Classification of chemical reactors. -Introduction to single-phase model reactors, calculation of conversion levels in single-phase model reactors by applying mass balance. -Tools for the selection and optimisation of single-phase model reactors in case of multiple reactions. -Energy balance to describe non-isothermal single-phase model reactors. -Software tools for modelling single-phase model reactors. |
