Leerdoelen | This course aims at providing background, mathematical and design tools which are used in the development of mechatronics systems. At the end of the course, the students will be able: 1. to define basic building blocks in mechatronic systems; 2. to determine design requirement of mechatronic systems in order to meet design specifications; 3. to determine appropriate components (sensors and actuators) that meet the requirement; 4. to derive the dynamical model of multi-physical-domain systems; 5. to design optimal control systems based on the design requirement; 6. to analyze the complete systems with respect to external disturbances and uncertainties which may pose a risk to the design; 7. to understand the influence of delays and common nonlinearities for the stability of the system; 8. to design state observers for indirect signal measurement. This lecture is of use to those engineers developing mechatronic systems but the material should be viewed as important background material for anyone who will be involved with systems design in instrumentation in industry, astronomy, physics and biomedical engineering. |

Onderwijsvorm |
Hoorcollege (LC), Practisch werk (PRC), Werkcollege (T)
(lectures, tutorials, guest lecture. Please note that the first lecture of this course is mandatory. Not being present will lead to un-enrollment from the course.) |

Toetsvorm |
Practisch werk (PR), Schriftelijk tentamen (WE)
(Final grade: Exam grade plus bonus points (maximally 1) potentially awarded for the practical, given by the practical assistants (TA’s) based on excellent performance of the student. The TA’s observe the efforts students put into the practical and judge the quality (performance) of the end product (cart which moves autonomously over a road).) |
