Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: - describe different strategies for drug targeting, personalized medicine and theranostics; - describe recent developments in the field of nanomedicine and drug targeting and related innovative therapeutical strategies; - describe different innovative experimental approaches for the development of nanomedicines and targeted drugs, including monoclonal-based therapies, nanoparticle-based therapies and protein-based drug targeting strategies; - explain the different physiological barriers to drug delivery and (immune) cell-based clearance mechanisms, as well as describe the cellular uptake and intracellular distribution of nanomedicines and targeted drugs and their consequences; - justify the usage of drug carriers; - list the various types of drug carriers and their characteristics, as well as describe their advantages and disadvantages; - list and describe approved nanomedicines; - present the above to their peers. |

Omschrijving | Overview The course consists of the following topics: - Personalized medicine and theranostics - Drug targeting; basic principles - Monoclonal anitibodies and modified forms thereof - Drug delivery using nano-sized carriers - Types of drug carriers - Pharmacokinetics of drug carriers - Cellular uptake and intracellular distribution of drug carriers - Stimuli-responsive drug carriers and nanomedicine for photothermal and photodynamic therapies - Nanomedicine for imaging and diagnosis - Overview of the currently approved nanomedicines, including RNA based drugs and recent vaccines against COVID19 - Barriers for drug carriers and nanomedicines Hours per week |
