Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) understand the theoretical background of the following methods: liquid chromatography, gel electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, ligand binding assays,liquid-liquid extractions, protein analysis including the analysis of biopharmaceuticals 2) understand the fundamental principles of toxicological analysis, therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical chemistry and the interpretation of laboratory data 3) design experiments related to the quantitative analysis of drugs and of therapeutic proteins (biopharmaceuticals) in body fluids and outline the validation of such methods according to international guidelines 4) develop simple separation- and mass spectrometry-based methods for specific real-life problems 5) execute quantitative and qualitative analyses of drugs and proteins in biological samples with applications in clinical chemistry, therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical toxicology 6) select an appropriate analytical method and interpret the results based on arguments showing that they can apply the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to problems in pharmaceutical analysis and bioanalysis 7) become aware of application areas of (bio)analytical chemistry related to drug analysis/monitoring and clinical chemistry 8) understand the theoretical principles of the interpretation of the data obtained in a clinical chemistry laboratory 9) understand how quantitative drug analyses can be used to optimize drug treatment 10) interpret the results of toxicological analyses by using simple pharmacokinetic calculations. |

Omschrijving | The following topics will be treated in this course: Theory: Introduction to Bioanalysis, Sample Preparation, Separation Methods, Ligand Binding Assays, Mass Spectrometry, Protein Analysis, Biopharmaceuticals, Regulated Bioanalysis, Applied Pharmacokinetics, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Toxicology, Clinical Chemistry, Interpretation of Laboratory Data Practical Part: Sample Preparation, Protein Analysis, Drug Analysis in Biological Samples This course is based on prior knowledge from the course Instrumental Analysis. This course prepares students for the following courses: Advanced Bioanalysis (elective course in the 3rd year), Quantitative Bioanalysis, research in this field, as well as for a Masters in Pharmacy or Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences. |
