Learning objectives:
At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1) integrate global thinking and local acting.
2) integrate different socio-cultural, scientific and socio-economic aspects of sustainability issues on a global scale.
3) substantiate a creative intervention to battle a sustainability issue for a specific continent.
4) create a persuasive fact sheet in which you present a creative intervention to battle a sustainability issue for a specific continent.
5) develop presenting skills and teamwork skills.
Omschrijving This highly interactive course is centered around a serious game you'll play in groups with your fellow students. This active form of learning helps you to integrate the many perspectives of sustainability and apply those on real-life and actual problems. You will learn how to design feasible interventions for specific regions from a global perspective; Think global, act local!

In this serious game which lasts for ten weeks, you will weekly present an innovative solution for a sustainability issue for a specific continent. This is done in a group of students with which you also have to create a weekly fact sheet. At the end of the ten weeks, there will be a final congress day where you'll experience global politics regarding sustainability. The grade for this course consists of the fact sheets (10% per sheet; 70% of final grade) and the final presentation on the congress day (30% of final grade).

Simultaneously with the course Global Integration you will follow the course Global Challenges. In Global Integration, you'll have to work with the course material of Global Challenges. Therefore these two courses have to be combined and cannot be followed independently from each other.

Prior knowledge: The course presumes no prior knowledge or skills. It is not possible to follow this course independently of the course Global Challenges.

Followed by: In previous years, the course has been attended by around 40/50 third year bachelor students from various different programmes. For example: Biology, Medicine, Philosophy, Chemistry, International Relations and International Organizations, Psychology, History, Spatial Planning and Design, Human Geography and Planning, Sociology and Business Administration.

Preparation for: The course slightly prepares for and provides skills usable in the Master Programme Energy and Environmental Science, only for students of FSE.
Opmerkingen Mandatory presence: Yes , Attendance during weekly and final presentations is mandatory. Missing out of them without sufficient reason results in a remedial assignment.

Pass mark: Final grade of the course is 30% final presentation and 70% fact sheets (every fact sheet counts for 10% of the final grade). Final course grade needs to be 5.5 or higher.
