At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1) analyze the background of a specific sustainability issue.
2) describe and analyze the socio-cultural, scientifc and socio-economic aspects of a specific sustainability issue.
3) discuss the synergy between the socio-cultural, scientific and socio-economic aspects of a specific sustainability issue.
4) formulate a work plan for tackling a specific sustainability issue.
5) give a substantiated advice on a specific sustainability issue and deliver this advice in a goal oriented written and oral form.
6) work on a sustainability project in an interdisciplinary team.
Omschrijving During the second part of the minor Future Planet Innovation you will work on a real-life problem in a multi-disciplinary group of students.
Autonomy, independence and responsibility are the key words here. You analyze the different sustainability aspects of the problem and look for societal input by actively searching for stakeholders. During the project, you will receive tailor-made feedback from the staff and your fellow students. Different workshops guide you to the end-result: a report which discusses your own action plan and a final presentation for invited experts from the field.

Prior knowledge: The course unit presumes knowledge and skills from the prior courses of the minor Future Planet Innovation: Global Challenges and Global Integration.

Followed by: In previous years, the course has been attended by around 30/40 third year bachelor students from various different programmes. For example: Biology, Medicine, Philosophy, Chemistry, International Relations and International Organizations, Psychology, History, Spatial Planning and Design, Human Geography and Planning, Sociology and Business Administration

Preparation for: The course slightly prepares for and provides skills usable in the Master Programme Energy and Environmental Science, only for FSE students
Opmerkingen Mandatory presence: Yes , The workshops are mandatory. Missing out on them without sufficient reasoning might result in (a) remedial assignment(s).

Pass mark: The grade for the project proposal has to be a 5.0 or higher. Course grade is 20% project proposal, 60% final report and 20% final presentation. The final course grade has to be 5.5 or higher.
