Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
explain trends in the periodic table and compare the properties of elements using these trends.

derive structures, trends in bond length/strength and other molecular properties by applying bonding theories (VB/MO) and symmetry considerations.
outline the basic chemistry of the main group elements, and is able to relate electronic structure of d-metal compounds to spectral and magnetic properties.
discuss the synthesis, structure and reactivity of coordination complexes.
Omschrijving This course provides a general introduction to inorganic chemistry, which deals with the chemical properties of all the elements. The first part of the course will cover central concepts in inorganic chemistry, with emphasis on atomic structure, chemical bonding, Lewis acid/base theory and coordination chemistry. The second part focuses on the d-block metals (electronic structure, magnetism, spectra)
