Leerdoelen 1. Acquiring knowledge of information gathering and understanding of a technology (drying and crystallization) in relation with a substance as a solid (handling and formulation) by applying psychrometry and a pathway analysis.
2. Ability to link theory of physical properties behaviour to specifically used and explained technology and substances in a typical environment.
3. Ability to address potential process incompatibilities / inconsistencies and define possible solutions.
4. Ability to define a control strategy based on the technology requirements.
5. Ability to define the function of involved process equipment, within the specific technology concept and to generate a mass and energy balance and path analysis.
Omschrijving During workshops specific equipment and systems will be discussed such as
Utility systems : cooling water, steam and condensate, hot oil, shilled water, instrument air, ammoniac cooling.
Dryer and crystallizer systems
Specific equipment for handling, transporting and storing solids, with special attention to solid formulating equipment.

During the discussion of this specific equipment, the working principles, interaction with air and related issues such as operability, controllability, maintainability and QESH (Quality, Environment, Safety and Health) are addressed by discussing psychrometry, mass and energy balance and Pathway Analysis.

A personal assignment of an equipment system including an utility, a substance, a location (weather condition) and a technology, has to be completed and reported to enhance equipment system and solid handling understanding. The report format has to be according to an issued standard.
Two presentations ( one on solid handling and one on the technology) are part of the knowledge exchange.
This is implemented through: self-study (literature and internet survey) related to substance, weather and technology and in collaboration with other students linked to an utility system (Aspen modeling).
Nestor will be used for support during the module and modeling assistance will be available.
