Assignment: Literature assignment with a small report (1-2 A4)

90% Exam, 10% assignment. A overall averaged mark higher than 5.5 needs to be obtained. There are no specific minimum criteria for the specific assessed parts. Up to 10% bonus can be obtained from additional weekly homework assignments. Grade for the assignment can be carried over to the next year.

This course assumes knowledge obtain from first year courses, specifically General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry 1, Molecules, Structure, Reactivity and Function, and Introduction to Process and Product Technology.

This course provides basic knowledge on organic chemistry from an industrial perspective. The course contains the following subjects:
1. feedstocks, major intermediates and processes in the chemical industry
2. properties and characteristics of important functional groups
3. important functional group transformations
4. reaction mechanisms and underlying theory
5. basic principles of catalysis and how it is applied
