Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1) Student can formulate functional and mechanistic questions with regard to behaviour. 2) Student can explain how the existence of trade-offs can explain behavioural variation - also in a new context. 3) Student can give examples of the use of information from other disciplines to answer mechanistic questions regarding behaviour. 4) Student has acquired specific knowledge with regard to selected behavioural biological subjects. 5) Student has a critical attitude towards research results including professional literature. |

Omschrijving | The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical and conceptual basis for a good understanding of the most important questions and methods in behavioural biology. Attention is paid to mechanisms (how?) as well as function and evolution (why?) of behaviour, and to the integration of both perspectives. Topics include: the evolution of behaviour, sexual selection, development of behaviour, foraging behaviour, communication and cognition. |
