Omschrijving In this course students become acquainted with health care as a social field and with the ethical questions that play there. A lot of
science and technology is used in health care. The first objective of this science and technology is to improve the health status of
people. However, technology is not neutral. Reproductive technology, for example, can help infertile couples, while at the same time
it can promote the medicalisation of wanting to have children. Every deployment of technology carries a moral script that is
strengthened or counteracted by social and cultural circumstances. In the course, the assumptions, scenarios and values in
specific areas, such as paediatrics, end of life, genetics, will be examined. In addition, attention is paid to philosophical questions
such as 'what is science', and 'how much certainty can we provide'? Furthermore, explicit attention is paid to research with people
and regulations in this regard. All this in the context of what are good moral arguments.
