Omschrijving | Students will acquire a number of basic scientific skills: They will learn how to find and evaluate relevant scientific literature, how to find and test good scientific research questions, how to write and to review a scientific article, and how to give presentations on a scientific topic. During the first part of the course, an introduction to science and scientific skills is provided in the form of lectures. Lecture topics include: the philosophy and history of science, the research cycle, experimental research design, an introduction to data analysis, and the communication of scientific results in the form of written articles and oral presentations. For the entire duration of the course, students attend practicals where they apply the theoretical knowledge from the lectures by working in groups on their own small research project. Homework assignments are given that help to progress through the research project and each student's project is concluded with an oral presentation and a scientific article. | ||||||||||||
