Leerdoelen | The course is specifically intended for bachelor's students in Artificial Intelligence. Main goal of the course is to gain insights into quantitative descriptions and analysis methods for physical phenomena related to elementary mechanics and an introduction to systems- and control theory and electricity, the latter especially related to spike generation. | ||||||||||||
Omschrijving | 1. Mechanics (Newton's 2nd law; elasticity; undamped and damped mass-stiffness systems; harmonically forced- and unforced oscillators, Laplace Transform, System function, stability), mechanical rotation 2. Electricity (electrical circuits; applications of membrane biophysics in neurophysiology; Hodgkin & Huxley model; Morris-Lecar model, action potentials, non-linear analysis) 3. Introduction to systems- and control theory. PID-controller. Homework assignments will be linked to these topics. 4. Practical assignments (reports): Computer practical “Action Potentials” (obligatory presence) and PID-controller. |

Entreevoorwaarden | Mandatory: Calculus (WBAI048-05), Linear Algebra & Multivariable Calculus (WBAI050-05), Signals and Systems (WBAI015-05). If the mandatory requirements are not met, only the Board of Examiners of the AI BSc may grant an exemption. Exchange students are assumed to have gone through this through their Learning Agreement; pre-master's students through the Board of Admissions - other external students are judged case-by-case. |

Opmerkingen | This course was registered last year with course code KIB.NF07 Artificial Intelligence (BSc) is a Fixed Quota (Numerus Fixus) programme. As a consequence, their courses (course code WBAI) are closed for students that are not registered under the AI BSc programme, unless the course is part of the mandatory curriculum of their programme. If you wish to take this course in your minor – or as part of a so-called ‘unofficial’ pre-master’s – please use the official procedure through the Board of Examiners form. |
