Leerdoelen After completion of this course, students will:

1. Develop and use skills of analytic reading and critical thinking;
2. Develop new vocabulary and word skills;
3. Expand grammar, syntax and sentence mechanics;
4. Learn how to formulate and write a persuasive argument around a thesis;
5. Demonstrate knowledge of discourse conventions, ranging from structure and paragraphing to tone and mechanics;
6. Demonstrate control of such surface features as grammar, punctuation and spelling;
7. Demonstrate an understanding of basic principles for integrating source materials into their writing, including the ability to use quotations and paraphrases without violating principles of fair usage and the ability to provide in-text documentation and OSCOLA bibliographic entries;
8. Compose multiple drafts to create and successfully complete an argumentative essay;
9. Develop flexible strategies for generating, revising, editing and proofreading;
10. Employ the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes;
11. Critique their own and others' works.
Omschrijving The course aims to improve students’ academic writing skills. The curriculum aims to work with students at a CEFR C1 level. The course concentrates on written skills in a professional context. The focus includes English academic writing, essay writing exam training and argumentative essay writing.

All compulsory writing assignments must be satisfactory in order to receive a course grade. Both 500-word essay under time constraint and 1,000-word term paper must demonstrate ability at CEFR level C1 or higher.
