Omschrijving | In this course the theoretical and empirical underpinnings of assessment and intervention with victims and offenders are introduced and discussed. The following topics are addressed: risk-assessment in offenders, risk of (re)victimization, motivating change, evidence based practice with victims and offenders, victim-offender mediation, detection of deception and malingering. In their study of these topics, students will also reflect on the cultural, ethical, and juridical issues involved with forensic mental health care. The course is based on the principles of problem directed learning. Students meet three times a week for lectures, discussion, and practical assignments. Each week all meetings will focus on one of the above topics. Taking a particular (real life) case as the point of departure, students will search and read the pertinent literature, and reflect on questions and dilemma’s raised by the case at hand. This course focuses on the theory of clinical forensic practice; the specific skills involved with these topics are practiced in the parallel course MFV-1 Clinical Forensic Skills. |
