Leerdoelen  At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1.reproduce and apply the knowledge about modern electronics circuits obtained in class 2.computer simulate and construct real operating circuits composed of diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers, and logic gates. 3.able to solve problems for the exam 4.able to analyze circuits in research type environment involving both computer simulations of circuits with the professional LTSpice software package (computer labs), and construction of real operating circuits (Physics labs). 

Omschrijving  This course treats circuit theory (also in complex form), Kirchhoff, Thevenin, Norton, complex impedance, input output impendance, loading, periodic and no periodoc noise, signal to noise ratio, time dependent signals, frequency characteristics and Bode diagrams, OpAmp, positive and negative feedback (application in oscillators), amplifiers, MOSFET, diodes, filters, digital elektronics (basic logic connections), practical treatment of sampling, Fourieranalysis and filters, NyquistShannon sampling theorem and aliasing, modulation techniques (use lockin amplifiers), STM, AFM, photodiodes, and solar cells.

Entreevoorwaarden  In principle not prior knowledge is required, but it is desired as prior basic knowledge the Ohms law (high school) and Kirchhoff Law’s (first year). I review all these topics during the first lecture and with tutorial and homework problems. This is the first basic applied physics course they have so far in their education, and it is the basis for all experimental/applied physics education. The course unit is obligatory for all Physics students (except astronomy) and prepares with the basic skills of electronics required for applied/experimental physics and modern technology directions. 

Opmerkingen  Final written exam together with the homeworks account for 70 % of the final grade. The grade of each of the physics labs must be 5.5 or above. The average physics lab grade accounts 30 % of final grade. For each computer lab must be pass/nopass. Completion of each one of the computer/physics labs is also obligatory to be allowed to take the final/reexam. Physics Labs: Obligatory to be present Missing of the labs will prohibit the student to complete the lab and to be allowed to take the final exam and reexam unless permission is given by the course coordinator. Computer labs: Not obligatory to be present (it can be done at home).
