Omschrijving | Studying International Politics as a Social Science IR as a discipline builds on a wide variety of existing academic disciplines. This course will introduce international politics from a social science perspective. To grasp this perspective, pertinent contemporary journal articles are read and discussed. Important analytical concepts and distinctions for the social science perspective will be introduced and applied to issue areas of international politics. In addition to the substantive content, students are also alerted to typical formal requirements of presenting research results in the academic discipline of IR with the help of mainstream journals and other typical sources for studying and research in the discipline. The focus is on active student learning in the classroom and team building among an international group of students. Assessment will be based both on in-depth discussion of the literature, and individual writing assignments linking the social science perspective and its concepts to substantive subjects of the course. |
