Omschrijving | The module offers a theoretical and historical exploration of the notion of dramaturgy and examines the different ways dramaturgy as activity is not only an essential part of the realization of theatre but also a mode of thinking and structuring thoughts. The student gains insight in the historical and theoretical discourse on the notion of dramaturgy as well as in the diversity of the actual dramaturgical practice. The exchange of thoughts with practitioners is considered essential. Theoretical notions that will be addressed are: classical tragedy, dramaturgy of the Enlightenment, idealism, realism and naturalism as well as dramaturgy for epic, post-dramatic, post-epic and communal theatre. Dramaturgy as action will be specified in relation to critical performance analysis, including dance and performance art.
