Leerdoelen | Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will learn 1. to relate theories in different subfields of linguistics (syntax, semantics, phonology and phonetics, language processing and language acquisition) to developmental communication disorders. 2. to relate theory / analysis and empiricism in the field of developmental communication disorders. 3. the methods and techniques with which research in the field of developmental communication disorders is conducted. |

Omschrijving | While most children develop language seamlessly, some children present with significant struggles in developing one of more aspects of language and speech. In this course students will learn about disorders in development of speech and language. The course focuses on how different aspects of language (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics) may be disrupted in the presence of a developmental disorder. Students will learn about different types of disorders and associated medical conditions. Students will also receive guidance in how to read research articles and, at the end of the course, students will present a research article, in groups. | ||||||||||||||||
