Leerdoelen	After this course, students will have basic knowledge of different empirical techniques for doing linguistic research. This knowledge comprises: -Use of language corpora, to be collected by the student, and the use of existing (digital) corpora -Use of questionnaires and elicitation techniques -Use of spoken corpora and techniques to analyse spoken language -Systematic observation of language data -Interview techniques for sociolinguistic purposes Students will develop skills to construct and collect objective language data in order to set up a small research project
Omschrijving	In this course, students will get acquainted with different empirical techniques to study linguistic phenomena in syntax, morphology, phonetics/phonology and semantics. One of these fields will be explored further, and will result in a small research project, to be reported in a final essay according to standard academic procedures (e.g. APA).
