Omschrijving How do norms of masculinity, heteronormativity and racial bias affect workplace interactions, be it in the business office, classroom, consultation room or at university? Why are some professions more white and male-dominated than others? In this course, you work on a gender and diversity assessment of a workplace or institution that is relevant to your discipline. Through a series of lectures, methodology sessions and a workshop you are introduced to key theoretical and methodological concepts that are catered towards assisting you in carrying out your own gender and diversity assessment of a relevant workplace. These sessions introduce you to the different methods that can be used in doing a gender and diversity assessment and help you reflect on the match between method, context, and available resources.

For the gender and diversity assessment, you are asked to select a particular company, institution or another type of workplace that is related to your discipline. Based on policy documents, and/or interviews, and/or site visits, you write a gender and diversity assessment and present your findings to an audience of academics and professionals. Bringing together the theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired during the semester, the paper and presentation allow you to translate your acquired skills and knowledge into practice. Moreover, you are trained to reflect on the research practices of yourself and your fellow students, as well as their theoretical, methodological, and practical implications through a two-step peer review process that requires you to actively engage with the process of doing a gender and diversity assessment across disciplinary boundaries.
