| Omschrijving | The course will offer an overview of architectural developments during the early-modern period in relation to the design of gardens and parks, from the beginnings of the Renaissance in Florence shortly after 1400, through the age of Absolutism with its grand houses, to the rise on Neo-Classicism on the eve of the French Revolution. Among the typologies to be discussed in the tutorials are the Italian villa and the giardino all’italiana, the French château with the Baroque formal garden, and the English country house with its landscape park. With a special eye on the Dutch situation also the phenomenon of country houses along the river Vecht, around Haarlem, as well as in the Groningen countryside will be dealt with. |
