Omschrijving This course focuses on how artists, media, materials and researchers could interact during processes of art production and distribution. Together with students of the master department of the art academy, especially media artists and painters, you explore ethnographic, phenomenological, and collaborative approaches to the study of art and learn to carry out research that joins artistic and scholarly perspectives. Next to weekly seminars, we offer three projectweeks in which artists and scholars work together and present their findings in a self-organized exhibition.
Besides these collaborative projects, research proposals are formulated in which artistic and scholarly components are incorporated. Topics of studies that have been done in the past range from 'walking and mapping: mobile media art’, 'contemporary studiopractices', ‘experience of interactive film’, ‘tactile interfaces and embodied learning in the museum’ to ‘phenomenological experience of dance’.

This course is developed as a collaborative module of the MA track Art History and the MA track Arts, Culture & Media (RUG) with the Master of Fine Arts program of the Frank Mohr Institute (Hanze University). The collaboration between the two institutions and their students enables a cross-fertilization between concepts, frameworks, working and research methods.
