Omschrijving | The MA thesis forms the conclusion to the theoretical line of the programme. It is based on academically designed and conducted empirical research, and the result should be an argumentative research paper on a topic related to journalism, based on personal scientific analysis and a substantial review of literature and sources. In principle, the choice of thesis topic is free, but preferably it builds upon the student’s Theoretical Specialization, or the themes and methodology of the Research Seminar. Based on the above, the following characteristics can be distinguished: • Argumentative research paper made by one student and based on independent analysis: An answer to a scientifically relevant and motivated question is formulated by finding answers to sub-questions. • Substantial review of literature and sources: The thesis is a testament to the student’s grasp of current research in the field, and enriches the existing scientific knowledge. It is based on independently conducted and methodologically justified empirical research. • Feedback and synthesis: The essay provides cohesion and structure, and the conclusion flows naturally from the arguments brought forth in the different chapters. • The presentation meets specific requirements. • The size should be at least 50, preferably 75 pages (of A4 size, 20,000-30,000 words) and no more than 100 pages, not including appendices. |
