Omschrijving | This course follows up on Media Platforms and Industries I, introducing students to the contemporary media landscape and the various social, technological, economic and legal factors that give it shape. This unit focuses on how traditional media industries like Film and Television are adapting to globalization and on the rise of new media industries like Gaming. How does television change when it’s “on-demand”? How has the recording industry been transformed? Such questions form the starting points for an introduction to the main players and developments in various media industries. Where Media History introduces the historical development of these platforms and industries, this unit provides knowledge and understanding of their current state. With Academic Skills running concurrently, the seminars of Media Platforms and Industries II follow up on the study skills taught in the first block and gives students first-hand experience of (and guidance in) discussing and presenting their understandings of academic texts and their empirical observations in the domain of media. |
