Introduction to Linguistics I |
Leerdoelen |
This course introduces the student to language and linguistics. What is linguistics about? Why study language at all? Basic concepts belonging to the core disciplines of linguistics – phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics – are introduced during lecture. In the seminars, the knowledge acquired is discussed, tested and practiced through problem solving in a diversity of languages. There are weekly homework assignments, and a final exam includes novel linguistic puzzles to be solved using the skills developed in the course. |

The Office for Student Affairs will enroll first year students, pre-master students and subsidiary students in Progress. The secretariat will enroll you for a workgroup in Nestor. You can change the workgroup you’re in by yourself in Nestor as long as it has not reached its maximum. This is possible until the first college week. Resitters who only have to retake the exam are discouraged to enroll for this course via Progress. They can be submitted to the Nestor course by sending an email to seccnl@rug.nl mentioning their full name and student number. The Faculty maintains the right to change the curriculum, the number of groups and the timetable. |
