The student knows and understands the past and present situation in polar areas from a multidisciplinary context and is able to discuss the adaptation of inhabitants of polar areas to the extreme environment and the changing climate. |

This series of lectures are on the conditions experienced—and adaptations exhibited—by plants, animals and people in the world’s polar areas. Lectures will integrate diverse subjects, including meteorology, geology, ecology, and anthropology. A strong focus is placed on physical changes, including climate change, affecting inhabitants of these sensitive areas. This course consists of 2x2 lectures per week, and will end with a traditional written exam. |

If combined with other courses from the minor Arctic and Antarctic Studies in the same semester, this course is mandatory as an introduction, within the same semester or in an earlier semester. This course is open to all students from all faculties and universities as part of their elective program after permission of the examination board of their study. 80% presence and active participation is required. This course can also be followed as an open module or course for non-registered students. |
