Leerdoelen Students who have succesfully completed their MA thesis will have:
- ability to write on a specialist topic in some depth and with some originality, in keeping with academic standards of reliability and integrity;
- Masters-level comprehension of primary and contextual material and of critical and theoretical approaches;
- ability to form a persuasive argument, produce a critical edition, or answer a research question using an appropriate research methodology;
- deployment of relevant theoretical language in analysis and synthesis of ideas
- research and bibliographical skills;
- ability to write in clear, well-structured English in a manner appropriate to specialist and non-specialist audiences
- ability to work independently (e.g. choosing and researching the topic).
Omschrijving Students will conduct independent research related to English literature in the field of Writing, Editing and Mediating. Students will produce a clearly-written, well-structured and well-argued scholarly thesis of advanced academic level.Subjects related to writing, editing, translating and publishing texts can be proposed from English literature and culture from all literary periods, from Anglo-Saxon to contemporary Maori literature, and will be granted when appropriate supervision is available. Supervision of the thesis process will include guidance and feedback, but the process is the student's own responsibility and independence in conducting research and argumentation is an important element in the process. The length of the thesis is 15,000 words with an acceptable margin of 10%.In exceptional cases,and with the supervisor's approval, a thesis may be shorter than 13,500 or longer than 16,500 words, with a minimum of 12,000 and a maximum of 18,000 words.

Entreevoorwaarden Bachelor obtained and admission to the MA programme. At least 20 ECTS obtained in the MA programme. (see the degree programme’s Teaching and Examination Regulations).
