Omschrijving | Following ‘Making Meaning: Introduction to English Literatures I’ and its examination of literary techniques and devices, this course will continue to introduce students to the study of literary interpretation, in particular the distinction between the discursive and non-fictional literature of knowledge and the imaginative and poetic literature of power: what differentiates them, and what they have in common. Students will discuss and analyse texts, fictional and non-fictional alike, in oral and written assignments. This course aims to cultivate ever more nuanced and more questioning approaches to literature and its place in culture, particularly through certain themes and threads in the material: youth and age, authority and rebellion, order and anarchy, colonialism, race, justice, and the voices of women. | ||||||||||||||||||||
