Omschrijving | The field trip to Shanghai (including a possible excursion to nearby Suzhou) will focus on the development of gardens and parklands in China's public space. Students meet with relevant experts and/or users of recreational/cultural/commercial spaces and learn to think through the making of shared space in daily life. They will also discuss and reflect upon how spaces make culture manifest in terms of identity, commodity, and lifestyle, and how these interact with other themes, such as economy and politics in historical and contemporary China. If the trip to Shanghai is not possible, we will visit and explore Chinese / Asian gardens in European context and adapt the course to locally accessible resources. Students will be divided into groups, and each group will plan its project at the beginning of summer. The materials and insights collected during the field trip will serve as the basis for further explorations in the atelier, which leads to a collective presentation at the Petrus Camper Festival in June 2022. | ||||||||
