Leerdoelen |
Identify, describe and analyze, extractive policies and the associated interests groups in nation-states, how this affects the success of nations, discuss areas for reform and associated difficulties. |
Omschrijving |
This course addresses institutions (and other, contending forces) and how important they are for success, or failure of nations. It also shows that there are no easy solutions. The course starts by introducing an overview to concepts like what is ‘success’ or ‘failure’ and unpacking some of the important (potential) drivers impacting nations, besides institutions. Next, the course builds upon this insight and applies it to different countries in different historical settings to explain failure or success on a nation-wide level. Learning outcomes: critical thinking of national and global outcomes, and their potential drivers; skills in presenting and writing of complex global phenomena. |
