Omschrijving | Data and statistics play an increasingly important role in all spheres of life. In this ‘skills training’ we will take a critical look at how we use data and statistics and how we value these. We will consider that data are not neutral representations of the world and that statistics is not about complex calculations. Statistics is actually a set of tools to think critically about evidence. Statistics is also about imagination, rigour and thoughtfulness in applying these tools to data. In Measurement and Meaning, we will explore the design and function of these tools, where they come from, and why different tools are seen as the ‘right tool for the job’ in different disciplines and contexts. We will also consider the relationship between statistics, data, evidence and claims. This training will help you develop ‘habits of mind’ and critical data skills. |
