Omschrijving | Since the turn of the twenty-first century, China has increasingly been part of the global order. It produces more consumer goods than ever for Western markets, enjoys frequent coverage in international media, and hosts an unprecedented number of visitors from foreign countries. "What is China?" has become a significant question for comprehending our world and its future. This course offers the entry-level introduction to contemporary China. The primary objective is to prepare the students for their virtual and actual encounters with the Middle Kingdom through providing the foundational knowledge of China's recent developments. In addition, it aims to sharpen the student’s critical awareness and reflect on the representation of China in mainstream media. In addition, this broadening module prepares students for their participation in Summer School 2021. Both its content and assignment are aligned with the educational aims of the Summer School. |
