Leerdoelen Upon successful completion of the course unit, students are able to:
1. Describe in their own words the differences between qualitative, quantitative, and integrative research methods.
2. Critically discuss research methods when reading scientific articles in terms of e.g. validity, reliability, and credibility.
3. Design a questionnaire for use in a simple research project such as a bachelor’s thesis.
4. Use basic statistical methods – with help of a statistics program – to perform descriptive and inferential analyses of data gathered for a simple research project, such as a questionnaire.
5. Explain which research method would be most appropriate when designing a research project in an academic setting.
Omschrijving In this class, students will be familiarized with a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods commonly used in the humanities. After an introduction to research, we will specifically focus on compiling and analyzing questionnaires, followed by an overview of quantitative statistical analyses. For the statistical analyses, students will get some hands-on experience with a statistics program.
