Omschrijving | BBB3 (Entrepreneurship, Venture lab & Business Plan), introduces students to research on the specific challenges and issues that entrepreneurs face when starting a new business in a medical context. The course provides insights into the basic skills required to start a new venture from a scientific point of view. The central theme of the course is entrepreneurship as a process of exploring, evaluating and exploiting of entrepreneurial opportunities through, for example (but not only), (bio)medical technology venturing. In seven classes/workshops, individual characteristics of entrepreneurs, basic assumptions of entrepreneurship theory, the origin of entrepreneurial opportunities (How to spot an opportunity to create a business? How is it different if we look at a medical problem as a starting point?) as well as basic principles of business models will be discussed, including strategy, marketing, network organization and financing aspects of launching a business. Each class is based on a pre-class reading and homework: a discussion in class on the main topic of the week and a group work assignment to apply the knowledge and see how it can be used. Each class ends with a guest presentation by an entrepreneur. During BBB3 and based on the outcome of the IPIM summer school, the students work in teams from the two locations (Groningen and Uppsala) to create a business plan under supervision of an experienced coach. The topic can be based on the outcomes of research project I or can be based on subjects or intellectual property delivered ‘off the shelf’ by the University of Groningen technology transfer office. The students also need to present their business plan in the form of a pitch to a panel of investors. | ||||||||
