Omschrijving | The course aims to introduce students to key theories on the complex interaction between people, space and decision-makers. The course trains students in analysing theoretical texts and in recognizing theoretical concepts in real life situations. After a general introduction on the nature of theory, 4 clusters of key theories are discussed in discussion sessions of two lecture hours each. Each discussion session is followed by field work in which students are invited to do a reality check on the theories discussed. Meanwhile, in groups the students do a literature review on more specific literature in the field. The findings are shared with their fellow students in the last weeks of the course. The course prepares students for the Master thesis by making them appreciate theory as a tool for seeing and generating new knowledge. This makes it a first attempt to work at the Master’s level. Corona note: Please note that we intend to stick to all dates, times, and deadlines for any possible setting. Check regularly for latest measures and further adjustments in rooster and/or on Nestor (especially www.rug.nl/corona and www.rug.nl/frw/corona).
