Leerdoelen Students who participated in this interactive course should be able to:
1. appraise what other disciplines can add to spatial planning and vice versa
2. communicate the role of spatial planning in promoting a sustainable society to diverse disciplines and audiences
3. formulate links between theoretical frameworks from different disciplines
4. use and integrate theories and insights form other disciplines in an interdisciplinary project
5. recognize the factors that can hamper and strengthen success of multi- and interdisciplinary projects, and apply tools to benefit from these
Omschrijving Environmental challenges (such as climate change) are complex and require expertise from multiple disciplines. Spatial scientists, social scientists, humanities scholars, physical scientists, and engineers need to collaborate to be able to understand and tackle major challenges. Consequently, there is growing interest in interdisciplinary environmental research that integrates the insights from various disciplines. In this interactive course, students will become familiar with how different disciplines study environmental problems, and their main contributions. Students will communicate with scholars outside their own field, and in groups develop an integrative research idea. In the process, they will learn tools to better work in interdisciplinary teams.

(Students receive lectures, guest lectures and have tutorials twice a week, where they work in groups on their proposal and receive feedback from the supervisors.)
Toetsvorm Group assignments, Individual assignments
(Students will be assessed on the basis of a research proposal (40%), plus presentation (20%), and a reflective essay (40%). All of these will first be graded on a scale from 1-10. The final grade is the weighted average of these three grades.)

Entreevoorwaarden Students from Spatial Sciences must have completed the following study components in order to be admitted to the course unit:
Bachelor Spatial Planning and Design or other relevant Bachelor.
Opmerkingen The course is open next year for 15 students from Spatial Sciences (EIP and SSP), to balance the spatial students with those from psychology and (potentially) environmental sciences (EES max. 15 students), total students in the course is 45.
