This course will give you the tools you need for doing ‘philosophy of’ your own specific discipline. It will provide the basic concepts, methods and frameworks for this purpose. The exact topics to be covered will depend on the disciplinary needs of the students enrolled. Examples may include semantics of scientific theories, laws, causes, mechanisms, types of explanation, models, abstraction and idealisation, natural kinds, agency, levels of representation. |
