Leerdoelen Upon completion of the course the student is able to:
1. Explain and discuss the major theoretical approaches (e.g., trait, behavioral, power-influence, contingency, and integrative) in the leadership domain.
2. Recognize how leadership can be conceptualized and examined as an individual, dyadic, group, and organizational process.
3. Explain the role of human resource management in leadership development.
4. Apply theories and key concepts in the leadership domain to assess and reflect on his/her own leadership potential.
5. Prepare and conduct a research interview with an HR executive in an organization to examine and report (oral presentation) on the extent to which HR policies and practices for leadership in that organization are based on evidence-based leadership theories.
Omschrijving Leadership is among the most important and most widely studied topics in organizational research. Effective leadership is crucial for the success of individuals, work teams, and organizations. This course affords students with a broad overview of key theoretical approaches to leadership and familiarizes students with recent findings from leadership research. Students learn how to critically evaluate leadership research, and how to apply theories and research findings to analyze leadership issues and reflect on their own leadership behavior.
