Leerdoelen At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
1. understand the characteristics of major change theories and approaches;
2. position and compare theories and approaches in terms of underlying paradigms;
3. indicate the implications of change theories and approaches for change managers;
4. reflect on change theories and make own judgements about benefits, applicability and
usefulness of change theories;
5. review and assess relevant publications in the field of change management;
6. write an essay based on a literature review on a course related topic;
7. give and receive feedback on each other's ideas and work;
8. prepare and chair a tutorial.
Omschrijving In an ever-changing world, it is essential for organizations to adapt and change to survive. During recent two decades the world changed dramatically, through digitalization, globalization, calls for sustainability due climate change, increasing competition, economic downturns after the 2008 credit crunch and the Covid-19 crisis in 2020. For organizations, it is essential to be resilient and receptive to change. However, organizational change has never been simple and many change projects are prone to fail, often caused by adopting naïve or unsuitable approaches to change. Therefore, it is essential for change professionals to develop a thorough understanding of key theories and approaches of change management, in their context. The aim of this 5 EC compulsory course Theories and Approaches of Change Management within the MSc BA Change Management is to provide such an in-depth understanding of key approaches to organizational change by setting these in a wider theoretical, philosophical and historical context. The intention is to allow participants to make their own judgements about the benefits, applicability and usefulness of the most common theories and approaches.

(In the tutorials specific theoretical themes will be discussed. Tutorials will be chaired by student teams that also conduct a literature research on that specific theme.)
Toetsvorm -groepsopdracht,  -schriftelijk tentamen (open vragen)
(The group assignment refers to a literature research and resulting report about a specific theoretical theme. Group oral presentation refers to preparing and chairing part of a workshop on the same theme.)
