Leerdoelen Upon completion of the course the student is able to (i.e. intended learning outcomes):
1. use a scientific approach in their work as a future professional HRM officer in organizational settings.
2. analyze the (mis)match between labor demand and labor supply in team contexts.
3. apply most relevant sociological, social psychological and organizational behavior theories on team functioning to HRM policies.
4. conduct an empirical study about team functioning in organizations.
5. present and discuss the presence of team diversity policies in organizations.
6. reflect and provide feedback on the work of peers.
Omschrijving This course aims to integrate recent developments in Business/OB with insights derived from social and organizational psychology. Students acquire advanced knowledge and insights about the functioning of teams and individual employees therein. The emphasis will be on understanding how personnel influx, organizational changes, organizational tasks and structures, and employee compositions relate to individual and team performance. For this purpose, we will address the most relevant theories in organizational behavior on team tasks, organizational diversity, mobility and social exclusion, power relations and mergers. Based on recent empirical findings, we will illustrate the importance of these theories for personnel management and provide guidelines for theoretically based HRM interventions to improve team work in organizations.

(The examination consists of two parts: 1) 60% Exam: ½ open questions + ½ mc questions. 2) 40%: Group Assignment on Work Teams: ¾ Essay + ¼ Poster. Students have to pass each part in order to fulfill the course requirements. This means that compensation is not possible.)
