Leerdoelen Upon completion of the course the student is able to:
1. discuss recent developments and schools in the field of strategic HRM.
2. apply theories from the different strategic HRM schools in practice.
3. analyze the interdependencies between environment, business strategy and human resource strategy.
4. evaluate the state of affairs in organizations’ strategic HRM.
5. formulate recommendations for HR managers to improve the organizations HR strategy.
6. write, present, defend and discuss research findings both orally and in writing.
Omschrijving The course aims to provide a scientific and analytical perspective on strategic HRM and the related design of the work organization. After finishing the course students will have knowledge and understanding of the recent developments in the field and are able to apply this knowledge in practice and in scientific research projects.
Strategic issues dealt with in this course are: the goals of HRM, ‘best fit’ or ‘best practice’ in HRM, work systems and the changing economics of production, individual performance and organizational commitment, linking HR-systems to organizational performance, HR-strategy in the global economy. Next to treating these issues theoretically, the course aims at introducing the students in the domain of empirically evaluating the actual state of affairs in organizations’ strategic HRM.
