Leerdoelen Upon completion of the course the student is able to:
1. Identify central theories within strategic Human Resource Management.
2. Read a research article(s) with understanding and explicate its/their practical connection to Human Resource Management.
3. Provide definitions of central theories within Strategic Human Resource Management.
4. Apply central HR theories to basic problem solving situations within a Human Resource Management Context.
5. Report on how to apply central HR theories to basic problem solving situations within a Human Resource Management Context.
6. Recognize the components of rigorous research in Human Resource Management.
Omschrijving This course is designed to help students understand how to align the organization’s needs with the needs and abilities of the individuals who are either current or prospective employees. Practicing strategic HRM means aligning human resource policies and practices with an organization’s strategic goals. This includes, but is not limited to, the organization’s competencies, identity, and constraints. An organization must also align these policies and practices with factors that are external to it (e.g., the culture that the organization is operating in or local legal regulations) – factors that are becoming increasingly complex in the 21st century. The topics that will be covered in the class are strategic HRM, analysis and design of work systems, law, planning, recruitment, selection, training, performance management, rewarding.
