Omschrijving | Over the years, environmental complexity and turbulence have forced organizations to change the ways in which they design work; the introduction of labor saving technologies in manufacturing, a growing demand for services, and a loss of lower-skilled production work to lower-wage countries, amongst others, have required organizations to reconsider the necessity and value of labor. Organizations can no longer rely on isolated top-down approaches to design work. Instead, organizations have to consider the complex interplay between various industry-, organization-, team-, and individual-level factors when designing work. Therefore, we take a holistic multilevel perspective on the design of work in this course. Work design is concerned with choices made about the nature or content of jobs, and how these choices affect individual and organizational outcomes such as individual work performance, well-being, and operational performance. Several contextual factors influence and constrain the choice of work design, including the nature of technology and tasks. This factor will receive ample attention. The course will combine lecturing and tutorial elements to promote students' understanding of the concepts discussed. Also, student teams will analyze an empirical case to apply the class contents in real-world settings. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
