Uitgebreide vaknaam Financial and Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship
Leerdoelen This course is part of the university minor “Entrepreneurship”.
Upon completion of the part that covers the financial aspects of Entrepreneurship, students:
1. Know the most common financial statements, like balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement;
2. Are able to generate the balance sheet, income statement and statement VAT by using an accounting program;
3. Are able to construct a personal income tax form (as applicable for entrepreneurs);
4. Are able to construct a corporate income tax form;
5. Know the limitations of accounting programs whenever these tax forms have to be constructed;
6. Recognize the financial failure paths of start up enterprises;
7. Know the financial assessment criteria that will be used to evaluate a business plan;
8. Can use and reconstruct the financial statements whenever he/she wants to make an investment decision.

Regarding the part of the course that covers the legal aspects of Entrepreneurship, students will have to make a choice out of the following two options:
a. Participating in that part of the course that covers the legal aspects of Entrepreneurship in the context of Dutch law. Upon completion of this part, students:
• Can identify the key features of the most common legal forms of running a business (based on Dutch law);
• Can identify the differences between and effects of incorporated and non-incorporated legal forms of running a business;
• Know the most important labor law consequences of being an entrepreneur;
• Are able to identify the tax law consequences (income taxes and VAT) of being an entrepreneur;
• Can motivate the selected legal form of running a business from a tax perspective.
b. Participating in that part of the course that covers the legal aspects of Entrepreneurship in the context of international business law. Upon completion of this part, students:
• Can identify the key features of the most common legal forms of running a business;
• Understand the main principles of international contract law
• Understand the main principles of (product) liability
Omschrijving This course gives students of the university minor “Entrepreneurship” the necessary legal, tax and financial basis to successfully develop a new business.

- This course has a limited number of participants and can only be taken in combination with the other courses of the university minor “Entrepreneurship”.
- The university minor “Entrepreneurship” is not open to students of the faculty of Economics & Business and the BSc Industrial Engineering & Management.
Opmerkingen - The part of the course that covers the legal aspects of Entrepreneurship in the context of Dutch law will be taught in Dutch.
